Old Local Newspapers
 

We have many of the old newspapers of the Phoenixville area ready for purchase and non-original films available for research only.  Phoenixville had a newspaper of its own since 1846 starting with the Phoenix Gazette.  That newspaper was followed by a number of other weekly newspapers, such as The Weekly Republican.  The Daily Republican started in 1888 and became The Evening Phoenix in 1975 and then The Phoenix in 1992.

MICROFILM INVENTORY

HSPA maintains a microfilm library that is available for viewing by the public.

HSPA also has copies of some newspaper supplements and some of the Valley Forge General Hospital Newspapers.

HSPA RESEARCH FEES

Museum Visits:  Free for all visitors 

Copies of newspapers on microfilm, except the Phoenixville Messanger, may be purchased from HSPA for $35.00 per reel.

Use of Library & Archives:
            Members:   free
            Non-members:   adults $5.00 / students $2.00.

Use of Microfilm Reader:
            Members:   free
            Non-members: $2.00 per half hour

Microfilm Copies:  $.50 per page

Copy Machine:
             Members:   first page free - additional pages $.25 cents per page
             Non-members:   $.25 cents per page

Research by HSPA staff:
             Members:   $15 per hour
             Non-members:   $25 per hour

HSPA members receive a 10% discount on all books, old maps, old calendars, tiles, and historical artifacts sold at the museum.
